Begley and O'Raighallaigh

O.K. It's Satuday morning and you're thinking . . "What can I do tonight?"
I know I know you are a spontaneous person - the Brewers aren't playing tonight so where can I go?

Well you can join us for a special night at the Irish Fest Center at 8 PM for a night with Brendan Begley and Caoimhin O' Raghallaigh.

Brendan Begley - a remarkable box player with the legendary group "Boys of the Lough" is considered to be one of the premier box player in all of Ireland.  I had a chance to talk to Brendan a few years back at the Celtic Connections festival and can say he is one of the biggest, baldest, best,  box players you will ever see.

Dublin born fiddler, Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh is becoming well known as one of the most creative fiddlers in traditional music.  He has performed throughout the US, Asia, Europe, and the UK

So stop in for a night of great traditional Irish music at the Irish Fest Center located at 1532 Wauwatosa Ave. Wauwatosa.  Tickets are $12 for a really great show.

Come on, it's going to be great.

Ales, Pales, Sticks and Stouts!

The Milwaukee Hurling Club is happy to announce their fifth annual beer tasting event on Saturday, October 22nd from 1-4 PM at the newly renovated Hoyt Park Grand Hall located at 1800 N. Swan Blvd in Wauwatosa.

The Peat Blogger was a member of the hurling club for much of my freshman year in college, but it had very little to do with the Irish sport . . . .

Bring a friend and spend an afternoon sampling more than 50 varieties of ales, porter, and lagers from around the world. (is it just me or do you see an “unofficial” contest here too? Which reminds me – don’t forget to bring along a designated hurler. . . I mean. . .driver for the afternoon).

In addition to a wide selection of brewski’s, there will be live music from Whiskey of the Damned and Atomic Whiskey Test (Apparently all the bands with the word “Beer” in their names are busy that day). Ticketholders also get a delicious selection of stews, soups and more courtesy of McBob’s and Slim McGinn’s West. That should be worth the price of admission by itself.

Admission you ask? I thought you’d never. Tickets for this fabulous event are $30 per person in advance and $35 at the door. (Most guys will pay the $35 because they just aren’t that organized). There is also a special $10 ticket for those designated hurlers . . er . .drivers attending.

This event supports the Milwaukee Hurling Club – now in it’s 16th year, and the largest community hurling club in the country. They operate the hugely popular hurling site in the Cultural Village at Irish Fest each year. Funds will be used to purchase equipment and support special programs such as the learn-to-hurl workshops for area youngsters. Find out more at their website here

Beer, food, Irish rock, and wooden sticks – it doesn’t get any better than this on a Saturday afternoon in October.

See you there.
