No More Golf Carts

As many of you know, the Summerfest grounds where we have our little bash, are HUGE.

For the past thirty years we have been using the old reliable golf carts just like all the other festivals to transport performers, equipment, beer, toilet paper, leprechauns and other useful items needed to run the fest.

Over the years as the festival has grown it has become more difficult getting things around the grounds in a timely fashion.  Going from the Rock Stage to the Cultural Village has turned into a drive through the Chicago Loop during rush hour.

Over the years it has become quite apparent the golf carts were no longer capable of doing the job. . . . .

This year the Board of Directors really stepped up to the plate and developed a strategy to expedite transportation needs on the grounds . . . . . .

New Irish Fest "Transporter"
As you can see, each transporter will have an identifying number on the tail and the catchy Irish Fest logo just below the opening of the drivers cockpit.

Neat huh?

Ok. . . .maybe I just fibbed a little.  This is the car of Wayne Boyd from the Belardi racing team.  Wayne Boyd is a Belfast born Indy Car racer and wanted to reach out to the Irish American community while racing in the IZOD IndyCar 250 at the Milwaukee Mile this weekend.  He asked if he could use Milwaukee Irish Fest logo on his car and naturally we said yes. I mean . . ..how cool is that?

Because he is from Northern Ireland, Wayne will be driving counter . .er I mean ANTI clockwise while all the other drivers drive in the proper direction. Should be fun.  Be sure you stop out to see him this Sunday.  Wayne will also be driving at Elkhart Lake during the weekend of the festival and will be stopping by the festival to meet the fans.

You do have to admit, it would look really good out in front of the Aer Lingus Stage . . . .

Blog Blitz

At last night's general meeting I realized I was waaaaaaay behind on posts about the festival.  When I heard about Little John Nee, I knew I had a lot of catching up to do.

While many know us as the greatest Irish Music festival of all time, Milwaukee  Irish Fest has a plethora (a lot) of events and acts many people miss. Well boys and girls, I'd like to point out some of those gems you just have to see this year

I know you all know we have a theatre tent. . . .  We do?   Why yes we do, and this year when you travel to the Cultural Village to see the Theatre Tent you can stop in to see Little John Nee.

Little John Nee from Letterkenny in Donegal will be bringing his one man show "The Derry Boat" - "a funny yet poignant story of four generations of migration between Ireland and Scotland"  to the Irish Fest theatre tent this year.  This is a can't miss show and you want to be sure to mark your schedule for this one.

Little John Nee is a storyteller, actor and musician of great acclaim in Ireland.

But Hey, don't take my word for it - you'll just have to come and see for yourself.

Little John Nee - reason #19,672 to come to Milwaukee Irish Fest this year
