For the past few years we've presented a "showcase" at each festival; Nova Scotia, Galway, Celtic Women, Northern Ireland. This gives us a platform to present the music, arts, and culture from one of the many Celtic regions around the world. Some of our most memorable Irish Fest performances came from the showcases; DRUM! from Canada, and Trad on the Prom from Galway were a couple of notable examples.
This year Irish Fest is proud to present the Derry Donegal Showcase. The culmination of several years' hard work by many people both here and in Ireland, the best of music and culture from the northwest of Ireland will be on display this August.
There will be so much at the festival about these two great regions of Ireland that visitors will need at least three days to take it all in.
Musical talent from the Derry Donegal includes:
On the Donegal side - Fidil, Moya Brennan, Altan - one of Ireland's greatest trad groups, Kathleen Fitzgerald and her daughters, the Screaming Orphans, the Henry Girls, Liz Doherty and Nodlaigh Brolly. From Derry and the north comes our good friends Different Drums of Ireland, Tom Sweeney, the Brendan Henry Band, and returning from last year - Kintra
Special attractions in the Cultural Village include: a special exhibit on the Beech Hill House and it's importance to US soldiers during WWII, an exhibit on weaving by Studio Donegal, author Caoimhin Mac Aoidh signing copies of his book "The Scribe: The Life and Works of James O'Neill", and showing of the award winning film "Paradiso" featuring Different Drums frontman Roy Arbuckle.
Whew! . . . .
That's just a slice of what you can see at this years' Derry Donegal Showcase
Don't miss it, don't even be late.
The Derry Donegal Showcase - reason #3,281 to come to Milwaukee Irish Fest in 33 days.
